Why school redraws the map
A “right” 3-bed in Lisbon can be unworkable if school is in Cascais (or the reverse) and the day has two commutes. International families also weigh language, calendar and waitlists. Treating school as a post-purchase detail is the classic mistake — the same pattern as choosing a property before an area.
Three paths (no ranking)
Broadly three families of options: state / public (local catchment and frequency rules matter); Portuguese private; international / bilingual (IB, British curricula, etc.). Costs, calendars and geography differ. This page does not list schools by name or score — lists go stale and we are not the source. Ask the school and, where useful, the council / cluster for current rules.
Lisbon vs Cascais — the family trade-off
Lisbon: denser supply and often closer to parents’ work; door-to-door time varies sharply by neighbourhood. What to ask before viewing homes

- Language of instruction and plan if they do not yet speak Portuguese
- Real minutes (not km) home → school → work
- Transport: walk, bus, Cascais line train, car
- Application windows and waitlists
- All-in costs (fees, transport, activities) vs purchase budget
